It's a Chrysler what do you expect? And depending where it is located could have something to do with it.

Although it's not great to see on a new car that little minor rust in that area ain't nothing to worry about. If it's been driven a bit, especially this time of year that's expected. It's like minor rust on drum brakes, it makes near enough no difference.

Can I go back to openly hating new American cars now? It's been bottled up since they released the hellcat, but if this is an actual problem I might've found my voice again. Now, instead of shutting up the moment someone mentions the Hellcats, a normal interaction could possibly go something like:

Me: New American cars suck

Internet Commentator: Hellcat

Me: Rust

I.C.: :'(

You mean to tell me that unpainted (and barely painted) iron surfaces meant to generate a protective coating of iron oxide are doing so on an unsold car!?!? Son of a bitch!!!

This isn't rust. Whole lotta nothin' going on here.

Edit: I get rust on my brake rotors if I don't drive my car I guess that means my car is a piece of shit.

Edit edit: Not meant to sound inflammatory, but anyone who thinks this is "rust" in the general sense of the word should not be allowed to own a car.

After I dented in the fender on my Durango a couple weeks ago, scraping paint and exposing bare metal, it started showing rust within a matter of days, and is now pretty much covered in rust over the bare spot in the dent. It happens. Take something metal, and let it just sit outside for a week, uncovered, and it'll have rust on it in no time.

I don't mean to thread jack, but I don't have Oppo rights and needed to tell someone....

Sitting here half listening to The Price Is Right, a lady just won a Ford Fiesta... with a MANUAL transmission!

That is all.

If this is troublesome to you stay away from doing any paintwork.

Unsold? Is it a media car? That's been driven, see the rock chips and brakes.

In the right conditions, I can get rusty rotors like over night. I guess my car is shitty, too.

Upon further inspection, this is just surface rust and I am the one who will be QQing when people remind me that, no matter how much most new American cars suck, the Hellcats are still awesome.

Yes it's because Chrylser made your brake rotors so they rust and are shitty also because Chrysler is an American car company funded with fancy Italian dollars so everything they touch ends up rusting.

Every car I looked at on the new car lots we visited had "rust" like this under it from sitting. It's nothing to freak about, like at all.

But my brakes aren't even American, they're Chinese! Does this mean Chinese quality is poor? Why didn't anyone tell me Chinese stuff is junk??? What next, they're copying our shit and flooding the market with unlicensed products? Never!

Normal for cast iron parts. Especially where salt is used on the roads.

There isn't any rust on these rotors, just on the LCA and stabilizer links. Plus I don't think this car has American brakes either. They're likely Chinese made of crappy metal, poorly painted and probably designed by an Italian :)

I was making a point that ferrous metal, regardless of country of origin, will oxidize when not protected by something like a layer of paint or oil. The fact that there is a light dusting of surface corrosion on the completely unprotected parts of this particular car is not a surprise, and it is not unique to Chrysler products. It's a feature of ferrous metal. Because science.

Would that also apply to steel? I would be surprised if suspension components are made of iron.

And its the quality of metal used in China that is widely regarded as low quality compared to their North American counterparts. Not necessarily the build quality. I have had some C clamps (Made in China) that broke and I noticed air bubbles in the metal. They were much weaker than the American made C clamps that I bought to replace them.

"Ferrous metal" includes steel. And I see lots of stuff in that pic that I bet is iron. It's more common (and useful) than you think.

Fun fact: The Honda S2000 used cast iron control arms. In fact, most cast parts in a car that aren't aluminum, are iron.

Just be warned, on Gawker media sites sarcasm is often mistaken for stupidity/ignorance. Not that I thought that of what you wrote. I But I am glad I now know that its likely most cars have bits of cast iron suspension parts.
